After having been a leader in the desktop place for decennary, Corsair is releasing its first-ever Corsair gaming laptop. The new Voyager a1600 is an AMD powerhouse, prepared by Ryzen 6000-series processors and the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series. The device is Corsair’s first adventure into mobile hardware after acquiring the enthusiast PC builder Origin in 2019.
How will this Corsair gaming laptop look?
We don’t know with complete certainty what this device will look like yet since Corsair’s pictures have delivered us only renderer, and we only got a brief peek during AMD’s Compute x keynote. Still, have a look, and one feature will probably jump out at you: a touch bar.
This row of shortcut buttons above the keyboard deck isn’t a “touch bar,” of course. Corsair described it to me, specifically, as “ten easy-access customizable S-key shortcut buttons.” The good thing is that this row of 10 easy-access customizable S-key shortcut buttons adds extra keys to the keyboard — it doesn’t replace the function row, which is an alternative some. other manufacturers have made with the mixed event.
Unique in the Corsair gaming laptop space and work smoothly as a Zoom meeting controller.
These S- keys powered by Elgato Stream Deck software mean you’d probably be using them for various live streaming controllers, including switching scenes, launching media, and adjusting audio. We wouldn’t necessarily expect a laptop to be the device of choice for multiple streamers. However, it’s still an exciting idea that’s unique in the Corsair gaming laptop gaming space — and can also work smoothly as a Zoom meeting controller.
You can access touch controls while the Corsair gaming laptop is closed
Also, you can access these touch controls while the laptop is closed. I like that you could have the battery indicator before opening the thing, but I wonder about buttons potentially bumped while the laptop is in a backpack or something. We’ll know more about how these buttons work when we get our hands on the device (which will be final in July, Corsair says).
Corsair gaming laptop has a Mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting and a 1080p FHD webcam
hence, the Voyager will include a full-size Cherry MX low-profile automatic keyboard with per-key RGB backlighting and a 1080p FHD webcam. I see what looks like a physical webcam shutter in these renders, which may be a good sign that Corsair is putting some effort into this area (which not all gaming manufacturers do).
What equipment is on the Corsair gaming laptop?
Prospective Voyager buyers will be able to choose between a Ryzen 7 6800HS and a Ryzen 9 6900HS — both configurations approach with a Radeon 6800M GPU. You can get up to 64 GB of RAM (Corsair Vengeance DDR5, of course) and 2 TB of storage. The device has a 16- inch 2560 x 1600, 240Hz display and two Thunderbolt 3 USB4.0 ports, one USB3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, one USB3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, and one SDXC7.0 card reader, and one audio jack.
It’s not shocking to see Corsair following in the steps of Razer, another gaming hardware company that developed into the enthusiast laptop sphere after a building and buying spree. Corsair has manufactured several recent acquisitions, including Elgato, supplemental manufacturer Scuff Gaming and Origin, and it seems poised to develop its reach to users who don’t necessarily want to make their systems.
How much will Corsair gaming laptop price be?
With the Voyager AMD Advantage Edition, Corsair appears to be taking on Razer in the enthusiast gaming segment. Corsair’s press release shows$2700 and$3000 price markers for the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 models, though the company also said that” availability and pricing will announce later.”
The quality and success of this laptop may be our premier clue as to how well that expansion is going to go. Origin has made decent PCs in history and is particularly notable for the customizability of the systems they sell. It’ll be intriguing to know how configurable the new Corsair machine is and how well these design choices go over in the enthusiast space.
